New Ideas for Industry From Nanotechnology Symposium

In 2006, the "Nanofair" once again brought together representatives of science and economy. According to the Federal Ministry of Research, as many as about 600 companies in Germany are already dealing with the development, application and marketing of nanotechnological products. It is estimated that the global market potential of such products will reach about one billion (1012) Euro by the year 2015.

On November 21 and 22, 2006, both during the lecture programme comprising about 50 talks given in two parallel series, and in the accompanying technical exhibition, researchers and scientists presented the most recent findings for innovative products and procedures, for example: How to produce textile fibres on the nanoscale, or how to develop environment-friendly and cost-effective drive systems using nanostructured materials such as nanoparticles as a storage medium for hydrogen. Symposium participants from 20 nations were given a warm welcome by Lord Mayor Heinz Fenrich at the Karlsruhe Congress Centre on Tuesday morning.

The main topics of the Nanofair 2006 included nanomaterials, functional fibres and textiles, energy, optics, process technology, Life Science, surfaces, electronics as well as measurement and characterisation.
